A strange layer of mist appeared on the meadows near the Thames the other day. One minute you could see people, the next they were gone. To me 2020 often felt like that, like a world caught in dense fog. Knowing how to move forward positively when everything has changed, is not easy. There has been […]
As a non-native speaker of English I am always on the lookout for positive words that make the right impact in my marketing. I confess I am a fan of the adjective “great” to describe someone or something, a state or a feeling. I have been using (or should I say overusing) it ever since […]
The author Sadie Jones once said about her writing, ‘You imagine a cathedral and on the page, it’s a garden shed.’ I do know that feeling, and not just in relation to writing. So often, you have great ideas for your small venture but when it comes to turning them into reality, the results can […]
What a strange looking prickly plant. With blue stems too – such an unexpected find! I spotted it the day we arrived at the holiday home we’d rented for a family wedding in Wales. Unfortunately our week didn’t get off to a good start. I realised within minutes of entering the property, that we’d been […]
Who wouldn’t want to slow down in business, to work less and have more time? Without your business being at a disadvantage? Imagine you were the tortoise who is ‘racing’ the hare. I became interested in the whole concept of time management because I was desperate to get off the hamster wheel. I always had way too much to do and no time to do it all – it literally felt like I was running round in circles, especially in the early days of my business. Having started […]
The other day I published a post about ‘hope’ on my Instagram feed – it was one of the prompts of the #augustbreak photo challenge I take part in every year. It had certainly got me thinking. About what it is and what happens when (for some reason) we find ourselves struggling and losing hope.
I remember congratulating a new client once who had just achieved her first small win, and a crucial milestone. As a coach, I’m a great advocate of acknowledging the small victories and celebrating progress. My client, however, tried to play down her achievement, confiding that celebrating made her feel uncomfortable.
One of the things I found hardest as an inexperienced business blog writer was to start a new post and finish it — to be honest, I didn’t really enjoy blog writing! Writing and publishing to a schedule can be quite a challenge for a busy person. If you recognise this, then please don’t beat yourself […]
